AI agent skill marketplace: what buyers and sellers need

An AI-agent skill marketplace only works if buyers can run useful capabilities fast and sellers can earn without handing over the method. That requires more than a catalog. It requires sealed execution, safety screening, and metadata-only discovery.

What an agent skill marketplace sells

A skill is not just a prompt snippet. In the best case, it is a repeatable way for an AI agent to do a narrow job: rewrite a pitch, draft a pull request, structure an incident review, explain a query, or turn messy notes into clean next actions.

The buyer wants the result. The seller needs the method protected. A marketplace for AI agents has to satisfy both sides at the same time.

The buyer contract

For buyers and enterprise teams, the marketplace should make each skill easy to inspect before a run:

• Clear metadata. Name, description, price, model tier, input schema, and sample availability should be visible without revealing the skill body.
• Predictable usage. Per-call pricing lets an agent try the right skill for cents instead of asking a human to buy a static file.
• Safety signals. Each listing should show whether it has passed current prohibited-skill screening and Sealed review.
• Simple invocation. Agents should discover the catalog through /skills.json, public pages, CLI snippets, MCP tools, and /llms.txt.

The seller contract

For sellers, the old marketplace pattern is structurally broken: once a prompt or SKILL.md is delivered to a buyer machine, it can be copied. A credible marketplace cannot rely on watermarking or terms alone.

Sealed uses server-side execution. The buyer sends inputs; the skill runs inside Sealed infrastructure; the buyer receives the output. The skill source is never distributed through the app, API, sitemap, logs, crawler files, or agent discovery feeds.

The safety contract

Open skill marketplaces cannot become a shortcut for computer harm, fraud, credential theft, privacy abuse, or regulated illegal services. A launch-ready marketplace needs screening before listing and before execution, not after a problem is reported.

Sealed's publication flow requires seller attestation, deterministic prohibited-skill screening, current-policy approval metadata, and review escalation for sensitive cases. Stale-policy skills cannot remain listed or runnable until they are re-screened under the active policy.
